Federal prosecutors announced on November 4 that Roland Chatmon, 37, and three others had pleaded guilty to kidnapping conspiracy and firearms offenses in an attack on his uncle, Curtis Dixon, in Detroit. A fifth defendant previously pleaded guilty to money laundering.The plot began after Dixon received more than $100,000 and a new car in August 2025 for helping social media influencer @mdmotivator in a viral video. Prosecutors say Chatmon learned about the gifts and discussed stealing his uncle’s money during a recorded call with his jailed brother.On September 1, an accomplice pretending to need a ride lured Dixon into an ambush. The group tied him up, repeatedly beat him, and drove him around to withdraw money from his accounts. They also stole a safe from his home and tied up his wife before leaving Dixon beside his truck and setting the vehicle on fire.Chatmon and the three other kidnapping defendants face seven years to life in prison, with sentencing scheduled for February and March 2027.
