
On Monday, October 7, Hurricane Milton became a category five storm. Because the Gulf of Mexico’s waters are record hot, Milton’s wind speeds increased by roughly 90 mph in just 25 hours.
As the hurricane advances, it is expected to reach the Tampa area in Florida on Wednesday, October 9. This has prompted President Biden to authorize emergency measures accordingly. Local leaders are also making quick and efficient decisions to protect their citizens. In that regard, Tampa’s Mayor Jane Castor has urged residents of certain zones to evacuate.

Contrary to what was expected, Milton didn’t hit Florida as a category five storm but as a category 3. One week later, citizens are still recovering. The storm caused flooding and a lot of water-related damage. Schools have just reopened, and locals are doing their best to get things back on track.
