On Monday, April 13, 2026, Trump shared a photo of himself depicted as a Jesus-like persona, and it went absolutely viral. People from both sides of the political aisle, as well as many Christians, jumped into the online conversation to criticize the President’s post.

One commented on ATM News‘s Instagram page, “Lets put Trump on cross then” and another responded, “And he WILL NOT rise from the dead.” But at the same time, a third person found the post “funny.” Well, not everyone was mad after all.
Most of the backlash, however, came from political influencers, journalists, and other politicians who called Trump’s post “blasphemy.” Former Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene was one of those voices. While reposting the image Trump shared, she said in part, “I completely denounce this, and I’m praying against it!!!”
What do Trump’s Christian Catholic voters think of his post?
Despite the online backlash, the post didn’t seem to affect some loyal Trump voters’ views of him. Sky News interviewed a few of those voters in Suburban Virginia, and they all agreed on two things. The first one was that they all thought the President’s post went too far; the second one was that, even though they didn’t like the post, they still love and support him. One of them, a man, even went on to say that Trump was the “best president” the United States ever had, and that he has been doing good things for the country.
Trump later deleted the image from his page after telling reporters that he thought the photo depicted him as a Doctor. He said, “I thought it was me as a Doctor, and it had to do with Red Cross…It is supposed to be me as a Doctor making people better, and I do make people better. I make people a lot better.” His tone didn’t seem apologetic, but the decision to delete shows that the online backlash had an effect.
