Around 11:39 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, a woman departing from the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas went to the JetBlue ticket counter to check in with her dog, a 2-year-old golden doodle/mini poodle. She was told she could not travel with the pet because she had not completed an online service dog registration form.
Instead of trying to find a solution for the dog, she decided to leave it behind. She tied it to the counter and went to the gate, despite not having a boarding pass. The JetBlue staffer at the counter called the police. Moments later, officers confronted the woman at gate D1. On the bodycam footage, she can be heard saying she was trying to rebook her flight. It is unclear what her plan was, since JetBlue wouldn’t let her board unless she found a solution for the dog.
Officers decided to detain her. She was allegedly combative and resisted arrest, leading her to be charged with Animal Abandonment and Resisting Arrest.
Animal Protective Services took the dog, now nicknamed “Jet Blue,” into their care and held it for a mandatory period to allow the woman the opportunity to reclaim it. She didn’t. Weeks later, the Las Vegas Metro Police Department shared on Facebook that one of its officers, Skeeter Black, who helped rescue the dog on the day of the incident, had been approved to adopt it. He and his family were all smiles as they posed for pictures with their new bundle of joy 😊.
