President Donald Trump’s administration launched America.gov on Tuesday, September 29, introducing an AI-powered platform designed to make federal government information and services easier to access through one central website.
The administration says the portal will help Americans find answers without having to search through multiple agency websites. The site features an “Ask anything” box where users can type questions in everyday language about services such as passport renewals, Medicare enrollment, federal benefits, and more. According to the U.S. General Services Administration, America.gov combines information from more than 29,000 government websites with AI-enhanced search technology. The goal is to give people a simpler starting point when they need help from the federal government.
Trump also signed an executive order directing federal agencies to integrate eligible services with America.gov. Under the order, eligible services generally include public-facing federal services that serve more than 100,000 users annually and can be accessed or applied for online. IRS tax filing services are excluded. The order preserves agencies’ control over their records and decisions. It also requires existing service options, including telephone assistance, mail, in-person visits, and agency-specific websites, to remain available.
At this stage, the platform primarily helps users find information and guidance, but the White House says tools for completing tasks such as passport renewals and Medicare enrollment will follow as agencies connect their services. A White House fact sheet says those capabilities are planned for later in 2026, while Axios reported that features for completing forms, applications, and renewals through America.gov are expected in early 2027.
