A 31-year-old man accused of pushing his ex-girlfriend and their 8-month-old daughter from a 15th-floor apartment balcony in the Bronx was seen smiling Thursday afternoon as police escorted him to court, just two days after the horrifying incident that left the young mother dead and her baby hospitalized.
The tragedy unfolded around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Allerville Arms apartment building at 2550 Olinville Avenue in the Allerton section of the Bronx.
According to investigators, 23-year-old Nathaly Ramirez was inside her apartment with her infant daughter when a confrontation allegedly escalated into violence. Authorities believe her ex-boyfriend, Angel Carrasco, pushed Ramirez from the balcony while she was holding their baby.
Neighbors reported hearing arguments, screams, and desperate pleas coming from the apartment shortly before the fall. One witness recalled hearing Ramirez begging someone not to hurt her, expressing fear for her daughter’s safety. Moments later, both mother and child plunged approximately 15 stories to the ground.
When emergency responders arrived, they found Ramirez and her daughter critically injured outside the building. Both were rushed to the hospital, where Ramirez was pronounced dead.
Her daughter, however, miraculously survived. Investigators believe Ramirez instinctively wrapped her arms around the infant during the fall, using her own body to cushion the impact and potentially saving her child’s life. The baby suffered serious injuries but was reported to be in stable condition by Thursday.
As detectives investigated the incident, surveillance footage reportedly captured a man leaving the apartment building around the time of the tragedy. Police identified Carrasco, the baby’s father, as their prime suspect and released his photograph to the public Wednesday, warning that he was considered armed and dangerous.
Investigators also uncovered a troubling history of alleged domestic violence between Carrasco and Ramirez. Police records showed that officers had responded to multiple domestic incidents involving the former couple. In January, Carrasco was arrested after allegedly slapping Ramirez during an argument. Days later, he was accused of breaking into her apartment while looking for her.
According to law enforcement sources cited by the New York Post, Carrasco allegedly arrived at Ramirez’s apartment with flowers in an attempt to reconcile before the fatal confrontation. Authorities have not publicly established every detail of what happened inside the apartment that morning.
After an extensive search, authorities arrested Carrasco late Wednesday night, October 7, in the Bronx. Police said investigators reviewed surveillance footage and followed leads to locate him. Police took him into custody and held him overnight at the NYPD’s 49th Precinct.
On Thursday, October 8, shortly after 1 p.m., officers escorted Carrasco out of the precinct in handcuffs as they prepared to transport him to the Bronx Hall of Justice for arraignment.
In footage reporters captured, Carrasco appeared to smile broadly as he walked past cameras, drawing angry reactions from bystanders who shouted at him over the allegations. He did not respond to reporters’ questions about the death of Ramirez and the injuries suffered by their daughter.
Carrasco faces multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter, and assault. The allegations have not yet been proven in court.
Meanwhile, family members, friends, and neighbors continue mourning Ramirez, who was remembered as a kind, hardworking young woman and devoted mother. A memorial filled with flowers and candles has grown outside the apartment building where she lost her life.
For many following the case, the survival of Ramirez’s daughter has become a powerful reminder of a mother’s final effort to protect her child, even as the investigation into her death continues.
