Tennis legend Serena Williams has been honored with a new Barbie Signature doll inspired by one of her most memorable career moments: her 2005 Australian Open victory. The collectible doll honors Williams’ remarkable achievements in tennis while celebrating her influence as a global sports icon and an inspiration to generations of young girls.
A Tribute to an Unforgettable Victory
In January 2005, Williams defeated fellow American Lindsay Davenport in the Australian Open women’s singles final, securing her seventh Grand Slam singles title.
The victory was particularly memorable because Williams battled through a difficult tournament, including a dramatic semifinal against Maria Sharapova, in which she saved three match points before advancing to the championship match.
Williams ultimately defeated Davenport 2–6, 6–3, 6–0, adding another major accomplishment to her already impressive career.
Bringing an Iconic Tennis Look to Barbie
The new Barbie Signature doll recreates Williams’ memorable green-and-white outfit from the 2005 tournament, complete with a tennis racket, ball, and matching accessories.
Priced at $45, the collectible captures a defining moment in Williams’ career, combining sports history with fashion and nostalgia.
More Than a Collectible
The release comes ahead of International Day of the Girl on October 11 and carries a message about representation, confidence, and ambition.
Williams has spoken about the importance of young girls seeing successful women who look like them. She hopes the doll encourages children to recognize their potential and pursue their dreams, no matter the obstacles they face.
The launch also supports a charitable initiative. Through Barbie’s Dream Gap Project, Mattel is donating to Mrs. Rina’s House of Blessings, a Florida organization that supports children and families through educational and leadership opportunities.
A Legacy That Continues to Inspire
Williams retired from professional tennis in 2022 after winning 23 Grand Slam singles titles, making her one of the most accomplished athletes in tennis history.
This is not her first Barbie tribute in 2026. Earlier in the year, Mattel celebrated Williams with a one-of-a-kind doll as part of its Barbie Dream Team initiative, recognizing her accomplishments beyond sports, including entrepreneurship.
