Just 17 months after losing her husband of 60 years, the legendary country singer Dolly Parton passed away on June 25, 2026, at the age of 80. Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, who also served as her head of security, announced the sad, shocking news on Instagram.
Born on January 19, 1946, in Pittman Center, Tennessee, Dolly’s love for music was almost instant as she grew up in a large, modest family where music played an important role. She arrived in Nashville as a teenager with big ambitions and quickly began turning her gift into a remarkable career. Dolly released her first commercial song, “Puppy Love,” in 1959, when she was just 13 years old.
Timeless songs such as “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “I Will Always Love You” established her as one of the most gifted songwriters and singers of her generation and sealed her place in American music history. Her success soon crossed into Hollywood, where she charmed audiences in films including 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias.
Dolly was also a successful businesswoman. She co-owned Dollywood, a theme park that brought her Great Smoky Mountains childhood world to millions of visitors. She helped transform the park from a small regional attraction into a major destination reflecting her deep connection to the Appalachian region where she was raised. In June 2026, just two months before her death, Dolly attended the grand opening of her Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop, where she happily cut the ribbon. That was her last public appearance.
But beyond her successes and celebrity, Dolly was even more recognized for the kindness and light she always carried. She became one of the most unifying and most loved figures in the country, with an energy and smile that healed the soul. She was deeply philanthropic with projects like the Imagination Library, a program that provides free books to children from birth to age five. It has since distributed hundreds of millions of books worldwide.
Needless to say, she will be deeply missed.
